How do you understand infertility? Infertility is the problem of couples who cannot make a baby even though they are trying. They are unable to make a baby due to some reasons. Simply put, the diagnosis on a person who is unable to contribute to conception is infertility. Although the popular belief of infertility is the biological inability of a person to conceive, the word still applies to those couples who are able to conceive, but are unable to carry the pregnancy to full term. This means that couples who are plagued with miscarriages can be considered as infertile. The embryo cannot survive in the female’s womb even though there is a fertilization that happened – that’s still considered as infertility.

Obviously, the aforementioned scenario is a female problem. What may cause infertility to a person is not only limited to either gender as there are a lot of causes of infertility. Around one third of infertility cases are unclear or unexplained, one third of infertility cases are due to female problems, and one third of the infertility cases are due to male problems. The medical guys define infertility very specifically. Couples will only be diagnosed as infertile if they have not been successful in making a baby although they have been trying to make one for about a year already. The time allotted for women aging 36 years old and above is only six months.

Primary infertility is how medical professionals strictly define infertility. It means that the couple are not able to provide or donate to the conception of their first child. There are also instances where the couples are having difficulties trying to conceive another one even though they were able to bear a child before. Typically, this case is called as secondary infertility. There are two conditions in diagnosing a secondary infertility, when the couple is able to conceive and does not matter if the female gave birth to the child or if the couple has suffered a miscarriage. And it applies only to the biological contributors to the first conception.

There is also another case which is known as subfertility. If the couple has been having unprotected intercourse for about a year, they would mostly get worried about not having a child. But having this scenario doesn’t necessarily mean that they are already infertile. They could just simply be subfertile, which means they’re just less likely to conceive as compared to other couples. There are similarities when it comes to the factors that affect infertility and subfertility. Still, infertility is a bigger problem to deal with as compared to subfertility.

So, how can you define infertility? In a nutshell, infertility is a certain condition that prevents couples from having a baby due to the fact that they are unable to conceive or the inability of the women to carry pregnancy to full term. When it comes to infertility, there may be a lot of causes, but when it comes to the pressure, it is often on the women for they are the ones who have to bear the burden of carrying the baby until they give birth to it. Just an important reminder, though, that infertility can be reversed.
